About the Author

Jennifer Ballow

Before I ever picked up a pen to write my first children’s book, I earned a degree in Social Work from the University of Texas at Austin. My experience in this field taught me how critical social/emotional learning is to healthy childhood development and that stories, above all else, drive this learning. These stories are especially reinforced by related activities.

I wrote Under My Pillow to give kids the words to express their emotions, to model both curiosity and conflict resolution, and to integrate the roles tradition, family, and friends play throughout the coming-of-age experience.

The supplemental questions and activities accompanying the text and found on this website are designed to spark creativity and foster imagination, while also encouraging children and their caregivers to connect in more meaningful ways.

Happy reading, and may Under My Pillow, a story inspired by my twin daughters’ memories of losing their baby teeth, bring you and yours closer today.
